Federal: Rise in Standard Deductions

Federal standard deduction amounts for the 2025 and 2026 tax years (the amounts most people will use when filing ): 🧾 Standard Deduction for Tax Year 2025 (filing in 2026):

  • Single or Married Filing Separately: $15,750
  • Married Filing Jointly or Qualifying Surviving Spouse: $31,500
  • Head of Household: $23,625

🧾 Standard Deduction for Tax Year 2026 (filing in 2027):

  • Single or Married Filing Separately: $16,100
  • Married Filing Jointly or Qualifying Surviving Spouse: $32,200
  • Head of Household: $24,150

In addition to these base amounts, taxpayers who are age 65 or older or blind can claim extra standard deduction amounts (e.g., approximately $2,050 for single filers and $1,650 per spouse for joint filers in 2026), which further reduce taxable income.
